Applying for Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair

Great Northern Events, a not for profit organisation, organises the portfolio of Great Contemporary Craft Fairs in the North of England. All exhibitors for our prestigious shows are selected for their excellence in their craft by an expert panel, to sell their work to the public and trade. Now in our 14th year, our fairs are renowned as the place to buy and commission unique and exceptional handmade work in the North.

Following the success of our 2020 digital fairs, the summer edition of GNCCFonline will take place 17-18 July, and, all being well, the much-welcome return of Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair Manchester 8-10 October. This live event will be held at one of the city's favourite heritage attractions and cultural venues, Victoria Baths.

You will be a designer-maker or artist working to the highest standards in ceramics, jewellery, glass, basket-making, silver and metalsmithing, mixed or recycled media, lighting and furniture design, wood, millinery, fashion design, interior textiles and homewares, leather, paper, stationary and printmaking.  We do not accept painting, drawing, graphic design, photography or greeting card makers (cards accepted as part of a wider range), nor do we accept hand-made candles or soaps and toiletries. Applications must be from the designer-maker. Work must not be mass produced but we do accept small batch production ranges, designed and sourced by the applicant. We do not accept imported goods, not made by yourself.

For GNCCFonline we recommend you have an online shop or third party selling platform.

Successful applicants will benefit from extensive marketing and promotion and a range of affordable stand packages, including subsidised stands for new and graduate makers. In the event the live event cannot go ahead due to Covid-19 restrictions, full refunds will be given.

All applicants will be notified of the outcome of selection via email by 31st March 2021.

Discuss Showcase at GNCCF Manchester

We are also looking for established makers, who are experimenting with new techniques/materials towards a new body of work, to apply for the “Discuss” showcase at GNCCF Manchester. “Discuss” is a free opportunity for successful applicants to engage the GNCCF audience in the process of their craft practice and to also get feedback. This showcase may suit makers who are current recipients of the Arts Council’s DYCP grant, or those in academic research. If this is of interest, please email a synopsis of your research and what you will be able to exhibit and demonstrate in the showcase to:

ann-marie@greatnorthernevents.co.uk

For all our fairs and opportunties, we welcome applications from diverse and talented makers from the UK and abroad, whatever their background or professional qualifications; we encourage applicants from those groups which are currently under-represented in the craft sector, particularly people who identify as BAME or disabled.
